Susan Hillyard is a photographer and retired librarian who grew up on the East coast of the United States and now resides in Santa Cruz, CA. She has travelled nationally and internationally to photograph horses, and is specifically interested in taking images that capture horse-horse interactions in the wild. Her work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally, most recently at the California Historical Society and the San Francisco Zen Center in San Francisco, CA, and at the Pacific Grove Art Center in Pacific Grove, CA. Hillyard has been an artist in residence at Virginia Center for Creative Arts, Hambidge Center for the Arts and Sciences, Ragdale, and Playa. She received a BA in English Literature from Northwestern University, holds a degree in Library Science from San Jose State University, and has studied photography at San Francisco State University, Foothill College, and Cabrillo College in California.
