Detroit Symphony Orchestra May 31 and June 1

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra will present the world premiere of Missy Mazzoli’s classical work River Rouge Transfiguration at Orchestra Hall in Detroit on May 31 and June 1. Mazzoli was the recipient of the DSO’s 2011 Elaine Lebenbom Memorial Award for Female Composers, granted annually to a living woman composer, of any age or nationality, in the spirit of recognizing and supporting the creation of new orchestral works by women. Mazzoli worked on River Rouge Transfiguration at Ucross last year, through a partnership between the DSO and Ucross Foundation. She called her residency “perfect in every way,” and after leaving, commented, “I already miss my lonely highway bike rides, my philosophical conversations with the cows, and a landscape that seems to know me better than I do.”
