2016 PEN/Hemingway Awards Announced
Congratulations to Ottessa Moshfegh, who has been named the winner of the 2016 PEN/Hemingway Award, honoring a distinguished first book of fiction, for her novel EILEEN (Penguin). Finalists are S.M. Hulse for BLACK RIVER (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt) and Margaret Malone for PEOPLE LIKE YOU (Atelier26), with Honorable Mentions to Karim Dimechkie for LIFTED BY THE GREAT NOTHING (Bloomsbury) and Chigozie Obioma for THE FISHERMEN (Little, Brown).All the honorees will receive Residency Fellowships at Ucross Foundation, which has had a partnership with the award for 20 years. This year PEN New England celebrates the 40th Anniversary of the PEN/Hemingway Award, founded in 1976 by Mary Hemingway, the wife of Ernest Hemingway, to honor her late husband and draw attention to first books of fiction.
