2011 Arbor Day Award Honors Ucross

Raymond Plank and the Ucross Foundation have been named the recipients of a prestigious 2011 Good Steward Award from the Arbor Day Foundation. Plank and Ucross are part of a group of 16 individuals and organizations who will be honored by the Arbor Day Foundation for environmental stewardship at the annual Arbor Day Awards Ceremony, to be held at the Lied Lodge and Conference Center in Nebraska City, Nebraska on April 30.

According to the Arbor Day Foundation, the awards “annually honor innovative and extraordinary individuals and organizations that represent the highest standards of tree planting and conservation practices for work done internationally, nationally, state-wide and locally.” The Good Steward Award recognizes landowners who practice sustainability on private lands from which others can learn.

Arbor Day Foundation founder and chief executive John Rosenow states, “The good work being done by our Arbor Day Award winners like Raymond Plank and the Ucross Foundation serves as a great example of how planting trees is making a positive impact on communities throughout the world. When we plant trees, engage our community to plant trees or give children opportunities to connect with nature, we are leaving a lasting legacy for future generations to enjoy.”

Through the initiative of Raymond Plank, nearly 17,000 trees have been planted on the Ucross Ranch during the past 5 years.
