Through our partnership with the Alpert Award, Ucross offers residencies to three visual artists and three composers annually. Alpert Award panels select the individuals from lists of nominees for the Award. The initial idea for the collaboration came from Ucross Fellow and former Trustee, Vanalyne Green, as a way to celebrate the opening of our new visual arts studios and our first composer's studio in 2001. We have hosted 22 Alpert/Ucross Residency Prize honorees, including Lisa Bielawa, Byron Kim, Emily Jacir, and Jason Moran. The Alpert Award in the Arts is funded by the Herb Alpert Foundation and administered by CalArts. Since beginning its collaboration with Ucross, the Alpert Award has partnered with several other artist colonies around the country, including Hedgebrook, MacDowell and Ragdale.
