Marion International Fellowship for the Visual and Performing Arts

In 2013, Ucross joined an innovative partnership, initiated by our board member Jesse Marion and his wife Cathy, called the Marion International Fellowship for the Visual and Performing Arts. Administered by SUNY Fredonia (Cathy's alma mater), the Fellowship is a "creative journey" that will support new artistic work and experiences in several locations of a newly formed Marion Fellowship Circle: Ucross Foundation, Chautauqua Institution, Alley Theatre, Alberta College of Art and Design, and Springboard Schools in Egypt. A final project will be presented at the journey's conclusion. Cathy Marion has stated, "This fellowship is the culmination of our many years of involvement with outstanding visual and performing arts and educational organizations in the U.S. and Canada, now bringing them all together for a unique new undertaking." SUNY Fredonia President Virginia Schaefer Horvath noted, "It represents a unique opportunity to provide what professionals in creative fields need most: connections with other artists, space for exploring new ideas, and time to learn, reflect and create."

In 2016 the Marion Fellowship award winner is Juanita Rockwell. Ms. Rockwell is an award-winning theater director, playwright, composer and educator who will be in residence in the spring of 2017.  For more information on SUNY Fredonia, visit
