Facilities for Residents

The historic Ucross School House and the Clearmont Burlington Northern Train Depot have been renovated to include four bedrooms each, with the dining area, living area and main kitchen in the School House. Both the School House and the Depot have laundry facilities available for resident use. The School House has two shared bathrooms and the Depot has three shared bathrooms. Two spacious writer's studios are located downstairs in the Depot.

The Kocur Writer's Retreat, overlooking Clear Creek, features two spacious writing studios, a shared bathroom, and a shared kitchen with microwave, coffee maker, tea kettle and small refrigerator.

Four large (400 square feet) visual arts studios are located in three separate buildings in the Rock Studios complex overlooking Piney Creek. There is also a separate studio with an Elephant etching press. Three shared bathrooms are located in the Rock Studios complex. A commons area includes a computer with internet access, large refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and tea kettle.

There are two composer's studios, Jesse's Hideout One and Two, both overlooking Piney Creek. (The studios are named in honor of generous Ucross supporter Jesse Marion, whose contributions made construction of the studios possible.) Jesse's One is located near the Rock Studios in a small log cabin which features a Yamaha baby grand piano and a Kurzweil electronic keyboard. The studio also includes a coffee maker, tea kettle, small refrigerator and bathroom. Jesse's Two is a stone house located at a short walking distance west of the School House. It features a bedroom, full kitchen and bathroom, and a large living room which has a Yamaha grand piano and Kawai electronic keyboard. Jesse's Two is occasionally used as housing for special guests related to the Residency Program.

For larger collaborative groups and choreographers, a large loft space with hardwood floors, located in the historic Big Red Barn, is available for resident use as a studio and must be reserved in advance. The loft also features a Kawai grand piano and is sometimes used for public performances and meetings.

 

Buck's Cabin is located next door to the School House and features a ping pong table, pool table, and TV with satellite dish and DVD player. There is also a computer with wireless internet access.

 

A walking trail for residents is currently in the planning stages. In the meantime, walking is available in Triple Creek Park near the Foundation offices, on Coal Creek Road and in nearby hills. Staff will assist Residents upon arrival with suggestions for walking.
