AL AND ANN SIMPSON FELLOWSHIP AT UCROSS
On September 26, 2024, Ucross honored Senator Alan K. and Mrs. Ann Simpson with the Raymond Plank Award for Visionary Leadership at the Ucross Gala.
During the event, we announced the Al and Ann Simpson Fellowship at Ucross. This special residency supports one visual artist from Wyoming with four weeks of uninterrupted time, individual studio space, staff support, and the unmatched experience of the majestic High Plains of northern Wyoming. Read about the impact of this unmatched support of the creative process here.
We are honored to present this fellowship honoring the Simpsons, who have shown significant leadership and support for the arts, in addition to their work across national and state government, health, land stewardship, and many others. In Washington, D.C., Al served on the boards of the Smithsonian Institution, Folgers Library, and John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. In Wyoming, he served as chairman on the board of trustees for Buffalo Bill Center of the West and trustee emeritus for the Grand Teton Music Festival. Ann has also been a great champion of the arts, including her instrumental work around the University of Wyoming's successful art outreach effort, the Ann Simpson Artmobile, which has traveled the state for more than 30 years showcasing objects from the University of Wyoming Art Museum's collection and engaging rural communities with the arts through hands-on activities.
Each four-week residency costs Ucross $12,500. Thanks to the generosity of the gala attendees, we were able to fund the first year of the fellowship and will announce the winning artist in the fall. We are now accepting donations to help us reach our goal to fund the Al and Ann Simpson Fellowship at Ucross in perpetuity.
