Naoma Tate
Cody, WY
Naoma Tate has devoted much of her time, passion, and energy to promoting and sustaining the ideals of beauty in music, restoration, and art of the American West. Born and raised in Salt Lake City, her family came to Utah as pioneers in the late 1850s from Scotland. She currently divides her time between her Big Hat Ranch in Cody, WY, and her homes in Salt Lake City, UT and Scottsdale, AZ. She is an acknowledged silver historian and a certified gemologist. Naoma Tate is an avid collector of Western art and a longtime patron of the arts in Wyoming and Utah. In 2009 she was awarded the Wyoming Governor’s Arts Award.

She is a Trustee on the Board of the Buffalo Bill Center of the West where she created the Hal and Naoma Tate Endowed Chair and Curator of Western History position, which she also chairs. She was named to the Utah Governor’s Golden Spike Commission to organize and commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad in 2019, an event that was celebrated world-wide.

Mrs. Tate’s interests and expertise have led her to serve on the Board of Trustees for the National Board of the Smithsonian, the Smithsonian Natural History Museum Gemology Board, Utah Symphony | Utah Opera, the National Trust for Scotland Foundation USA, and the Leakey Foundation. She serves on the board of the Berkley Geochronology Center and the American Heritage Center at the University of Wyoming. In addition, she served on the Advisory Board for the University of Utah World Leaders Lecture Forum and the Utah Museum of Fine Arts. She is a proud member of the Utah and Wyoming Westerners, the Utah Daughters of the Pioneers, Daughters of the American Revolution, and American Friends of the Louvre.
