“Ucross gave me the time and space to let my mind relax enough to unstick a sticky point in my project and to open up to the light, land, and creatures surrounding me.” — Ucross Fellow Summer McCorckle, Spring 2025
GROW WITH UCROSS

Ucross Foundation is located in the heart of our historic 20,000-acre ranch in northern Wyoming. In this unique location, we have fostered the creative spirit of artists and community members while serving as a responsible steward of our land for the past 42 years.

This spring, in these rapidly changing times, we are deepening our connection to our land. This commitment will strengthen our artist residency program and our community work. And we need your help.

SUPPORT OUR FOOD PROGRAM.

The Ucross food program is an essential ingredient of our philosophy. We are committed to nurturing artists and community alike through our residency meals and creative offerings in Ucross Art Gallery receptions, the Ucross Café, and other events throughout the year.

We are strengthening our commitment to field-to-fork dining by enlisting a farmer. Working closely with our chef, our farmer will:

  • Expand our onsite garden with increased beds and succession planting.
  • Tend to our growing flock of hens, who produce farm-fresh eggs in a spacious coop next to the School House kitchen and garden.
  • Fully utilize the harvest and reduce waste through use of preservation methods, such as canning, pickling, and fermentation, as well as an updated compost system.

With a sustaining gift from you, this nutrient-focused program will energize artists to immerse themselves in their creative work, free of distractions. And in turn, this support ripples out: After their Ucross residency, writers, visual artists, composers, choreographers, and performers have gone on to inspire millions across the globe through their award-winning work.

We will also be able to expand our offerings in the Ucross Café and our neighboring farmers’ markets, bringing this creative fuel to the community.

RECONNECT TO OUR ROOTS.
We believe that being a good steward of the land closely resembles being a good artist, and vice versa. Over the past four decades, we have partnered with the Bighorn Audubon Society for our Important Bird Area designation and The Nature Conservancy for our conservation easement on more than half of our ranch. Today, our surrounding landscape ranges from grazing pastures for sheep and cattle to sagebrush-covered hilltops and wild riverbanks.

And now, with your support, we will bring a dash of this wilderness back to our campus. Why?

  • Native plants provide habitats for pollinators, preserve biodiversity, and improve the well-being of our land.
  • Since they evolved in our unique habitat, these species require less watering, allowing us to be more efficient with our resources.
  • And simply: Native plants are beautiful. Imagine: red chokecherries surrounding the Ucross Art Gallery, vibrant lupines around The Park at Ucross, and fragrant sage lining Jesse's Hideout One Composer's Cabin.

Ucross is a nonprofit; we rely on the generosity of our donors to support our work. Your gift today will help us take these vital steps to deepen our connection to the land and enrich our creative environment.
