TITLE: Residency Manager
General Overview
Located on a 20,000-acre working cattle ranch on the High Plains in northeastern Wyoming, Ucross has an immediate opening for a creative, energetic, highly motivated individual with a passion for the arts to manage the daily operations of the artist-in-residence program. (Currently, Ucross open at half-capacity, and our residency program will return to 10 resident artists when public health permits.) The position’s focus is to maintain the highest quality experience for Ucross artists-in-residence. The Residency Manager position requires superior communication skills, strong organizational ability, excellent problem solving, and an appreciation for collegial teamwork. Creative thinking, professionalism, and a sense of humor are essential. This multi-tasking staff position supervises the Chef and Housekeeper and works closely with the facilities and maintenance staff. The position combines efficient arts administration and excellence in hospitality within an artist-centric organization.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an arts-related field and at least five years of professional experience. The Residency Manager will be based on-site at Ucross, and as such, should be comfortable with and appreciate rural living. Competitive salary and benefits package, including housing, 401K, and health insurance.

Principal Responsibilities
- Manage daily on-site operations of the Residency Program, working closely with the President, Program Director, facilities team and office staff
- Maintain accurate schedule for artist arrivals and departures and keep staff updated on regular basis; provide airport pickups and departures
- Lead artist orientation sessions and campus tours during arrival week
- Serve as main artist liaison during Residency sessions, advising the President and/or Program Director on any artist, facility and personnel matters that need attention
- Serve as primary after-hours on-call staff for emergencies, such as sudden weather events, with support from other staff
- Attend artist dinners on a regular basis and coordinate schedule of other dinner guests
- Arrange ranch tours for artists with Ranch Manager; provide weekly town trips
- Assist artists with supplies and equipment needs during their residency; help maintain resident equipment
- Distribute artist evaluation letters and collect responses; circulate to staff with an eye to any needed improvements
- Facilitate artist presentations locally, based on resident interest, and provide any needed assistance for open studios among resident artists; assist Communications Coordinator with preparation of marketing materials for such events
- Take resident photos and maintain updated resident photo album
- Inspect studios and commons areas after residencies, working with Facilities to keep spaces up to highest standard
- Assist Program Director with managing session grid and keep staff updated regarding changes
- With President and Program Director, supervise Residency Chef and Housekeeper, providing useful, ongoing feedback and annual performance reviews
- Provide support for special events such as gallery openings, author readings, and quarterly board meetings; assist with providing informational tours for special guests
- Represent Ucross in a positive, informed, and professional manner at all times
