UCROSS ART GALLERY

Ucross serves as a multidisciplinary laboratory for creative work and peer exchange. The Ucross Art Gallery is an important public component of the Ucross mission. The gallery presents three exhibitions each year, with related educational programming including public workshops, artist talks, and exhibition brochures. Exhibitions focus on Ucross alumni and outstanding contemporary artists of the region and beyond. Scroll down to learn more and plan your visit.

The Ucross Art Gallery is open to the public at no charge, thanks to support. Our exhibitions are supported in part by the Wyoming Arts Council, with support from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Wyoming Legislature, as well as individual donations.

UCROSS CAFÉ

We invite the public to the Ucross Café for a cappuccino and a pastry — a rare taste of the artist-in-residence experience on our beautiful ranch — after exploring world-class contemporary art in the Ucross Art Gallery.

Located in the gallery, the Ucross Café offers an array of beverages featuring espresso by Snake River Roasting Co., a specialty coffee roaster in Jackson, Wyoming, and freshly baked pastries by our artist residency program chef.

In addition to our standard menu, the
Café is now featuring the Controversy Spritzer (housemade kombucha, pineapple shrub, cilantro, jalapeño, candied turnip, and candied clementine), celebrating Prince's visit to Sheridan County nearly 40 years ago. The flavors may be controversial, but the drink's refreshing flavor is not.

BIG RED SHOWCASE

Picture
The Big Red Showcase is a seasonal spotlight on former Ucross artists-in-residence. The inaugural featured artist is Roxanne Everett, whose work is on view throughout the Big Red Barn from June 20, 2025, to February 19, 2026.

Roxanne is a contemporary landscape painter who is inspired by wilderness areas of the U.S. and abroad. Roxanne received a Bachelor of Architecture at the University of Idaho and a Master of Forest Sciences at the University of Washington. Following a career as an architect, she spent many years as a U.S. National Park backcountry ranger, living and working months at a time in remote alpine environments. She was selected as an artist-in-residence for several private arts organizations (U.S., Iceland, Australia, Canada, Greece), as well as six U.S. National Parks. She was in residence at Ucross in Spring 2024.

Roxanne divides her time between the urban environment of Seattle and a tiny, remote mountain community in the North Cascades of Washington. She shows her work regularly throughout the Pacific Northwest and is a member of Women Painters of Washington in Seattle. Her work can be found in the permanent collections of six National Parks or Monuments, including: Zion (UT), Isle Royale (MI), Acadia (ME), Badlands (SD), John Day Fossil Beds (OR), and Agate Fossil Beds (NE). In addition, Kings Canyon National Park (CA) has her backcountry journal on permanent display in the Grant Grove Visitor Center. Learn more about Roxanne here.

TEARJERKER: BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN

Picture
Tearjerker: Brokeback Mountain is a special exhibition created by Ucross Fellow Natalie Woodlock. This exhibition is on view at the Raymond Plank Center by appointment.

Natalie Woodlock is an artist based in Seattle. Primarily a printmaker, she explores queer temporality, subculture, and representation within popular culture in her work. She's interested in the social rituals embedded within queer subcultures and utilizes commemorative vernacular aesthetics to celebrate the communities she inhabits. Natalie has an MFA in Printmaking from The University of New Orleans, and has been an artist in residence at Women's Studio Workshop, Jentel, Ucross, Anderson Ranch, The Wassaic Project, and many others. She is currently working on her first artist's book Tearjerker: Brokeback Mountain, a work that illustrates scenes from Ang Lee's 2005 film that brought viewers to tears at screenings she organized. For this project she received the 2025 Larry Sommers Fellowship from Seattle Print Arts. Learn more about Natalie and her work here.
