Book lovers often gasp when they walk into the Ucross library, a cozy corner room in the Big Red Ranch House with floor-to-ceiling shelves featuring the works of Ucross poets, novelists, nonfiction writers, playwrights, visual artists, and more. A clipboard hangs on the wall with a simple sheet for Ucross Fellows to check out a book for research or recreation. And every year, the collection expands to include the latest books by our prolific alumni.

In January, we published our own book: The Ucross Cookbook: Cooking for Artists on a Wyoming Ranch, featuring works by Ucross alumni. The book features the most popular recipes and stories by beloved long-time chef Cindy Brooks, transcribed by author and alumna Cree LeFavour, along with food and landscape photography by alumna Martirene Alcántara. Ten acclaimed alumni contributed creative passages: author Sigrid Nunez; visual artist Munson Hunt; choreographer Ann Carlson; playwright and screenwriter Doug Wright; writer and poet (and former chef) Brendan Basham; writer, multi-disciplinary composer and performer Karma Mayet; operatic baritone Nathan Gunn; investigative journalist and novelist Suki Kim; composer and playwright Michael R. Jackson; and novelist and nonfiction writer Judith Freeman.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
Ucross Foundation acknowledges with respect that it is situated on the aboriginal land of several Indigenous communities, including the Cheyenne, Crow, and Lakota nations. Indigenous people continue to live in this area and practice their teachings and lifeways. Today, this region remains an important place for many Indigenous peoples. As a Wyoming institution, we recognize and respect this historical context and are working to build reciprocal relationships with the Native nations on whose lands we are situated. In partial fulfillment of that commitment, Ucross established Fellowships for Native American Visual Artists in 2017 and Native American Writers in 2020.
